Latitude Adjustment
November 21, 2024
Need an attitude shift? A dear friend of mine coined the phrase “Latitude Adjustment”, and one should never underestimate the power of a change in latitude. As a former travel agent who spanned the globe as far back in the day when there was a smoking section on planes, I know the transformation that comes with a touchdown in foreign lands. From Bora Bora and Rio to the Grand Canyon and Spain, changing your Latitude can be just what you need to relax a nervous system which is likely in overdrive much of the time. That emotional state can lead to poor sleep, cravings, hormonal imbalances, and irritability. The great news is that you don’t need a ton of money or time to make this a reality. A day trip to the coast, or a weekend cozied up in a mountain cabin can cure what ails you. The best part of travels are the forever memories that no person can steal from you because no one can take what is held in your heart. Whether it’s the presidential suite overlooking the twinkling lights and hustle and bustle of a major city or dozing off to the rhythm of the waves while under an umbrella from the surf shop down the street, just book it!When was the last time you got away? Was it alone? Was it with fun people? Plan a latitude adjustment and stop denying yourself the pleasure of being elsewhere. Farm out the kids or bring them with you. Bring a book or some friends. As with most things, the world won’t fall apart, and you may come back more whole than when you left, and while you’re at it, put the phone on silent, or at least look at it less. Digital detoxes are great for the mind because it allows for imagination, curiosity, and appreciation to kick in. I’ve found that to decrease stress and anxiety, I first must allow room in my life for things that feel good. Living with intention means that we need to make space for more instead of just “wishing and wanting” for things to change. So, grab your calendar, and live well with a latitude adjustment!
