Weight Loss for Longevity
November 21, 2024
It’s complex! For anyone who has ever tried to shed a few pounds, you know how tricky it can be. When we’re younger, the hack may be reducing calories and relying on abundant levels of the hormone HGH (Human Growth Hormone). It’s a hormone produced in the pituitary gland that helps to regulate blood sugar levels. As we get older, it declines.
In our teens and 20’s it seems we can prioritize work and a late night out at the expense of sleep and still lose weight or maintain it easily! What’s up with that? The older we get the harder it seems to stay at the same weight, let alone lose it! We went through the sugar-free, fat-free decades, of which I am a product. My grandmother was told by her nurses to drink diet soda and use the “pink packet” of sweetener, full of carcinogens. Although the 80s did create the best music, if you ask me, they pushed all the wrong foods. Who knew it would be such a disaster? And that’s when weight and diabetes began to skyrocket.
Our obsessive culture of being thin and looking good is prioritized over feeling healthy, and we’ve run our confidence and self-image into a ditch. Bio-individuality (Our unique health needs based on habits, stressors, genes, and lifestyle) plays a role here, but why? Why is it some can exercise more, eat a few salads, and lose weight? Why is it certain “diets work” for some and not others? You have all the fat cells you will ever have, and they don’t grow in number, they just get larger or shrink. What impacts the size is the amount of toxins from processed foods, water, junky body care products that contain chemicals, etc. Your body doesn’t have a trash bin it can throw the toxins out in, so fat cells become the receptacle and swell with toxins. It does this to keep toxins out of your vital organs so that you can survive!
There is a “long game” to weight loss. Lose it, keep it off, and get healthy in the process, right? dooable health™ believes that everyone trying to manage chronic disease and obesity can achieve well-being. Whether you want to lose ten pounds or a hundred, there is a way. But, you may need to get out of your way! You must be open to walking a new path and release the grip you have on the exact date and number of pounds you will lose. The human body isn’t a computer but given half a chance and a little consistency, you will feel and see the desired results. Visceral fat is metabolically active, which means calorie counting will leave you defeated. Because it’s hormonally driven, one must address, stress and cortisol, sex hormones, toxins, thyroid, insulin, sleep, nutrition, and exercise. At least if you want to keep the weight off.
Our coaches will meet you where you are in your journey. Whether you want to avoid a GLP-1 (Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy et al ), are currently on it, or coming off due to expense or side effects, we are here to support your goals. All you need to do is take the first brave step.
