Bio – what?
November 21, 2024
Bio individuality Recognizes that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to health. That each person is a unique individual with highly individualized nutritional requirements. Those requirements are based on things like:
- Personal tastes
- Body types
- Metabolism
- Genetics/ancestry
- Cultural Influences and Traditions
- Activity levels
- Stress levels
- Lifestyle
- And more
There is evidence of bio-individuality at play all around us. Do you know someone who –
- Drinks coffee at night and sleeps like a baby
- Is over 70 or 80, smokes, and is in generally good health
- Is allergic to peanuts, dairy, or gluten
- Cuts out sugar and loses 10 pounds in a month
- Cuts out sugar and loses 10 pounds in 6 months
- Loves seafood / Despises seafood
- Feels energized by a big salad
- Gets a stomach ache after a salad
- Loves a steak / Never wants beef
- Has a genetic disorder
- Partakes in religious fasting practices
For a while there I abandoned a few of my bio individuality practices that made me who I am. I found myself under a tidal wave of “do this, not that” information. Of course, no matter the age, the way we eat should always be healthy, yet the seasons of our life affect everything from hormones to energy levels. Think about a 17-year-old girl, and that same girl at 50. Or a 15-year-old boy and a 60-year-old man. A masterful coach will not put you on a plan without knowing, truly knowing, the essence of you. And that knowledge can take a bit of time and will depend on how much is shared in a confidential session. If someone you are relying on for wellness doesn’t open the discussion about you in those contextual ways, then there is a high probability you are being treated as a number, a sex, a diagnosis, or an age. You are so much more than a label and a coaching relationship will help you to create a healthy framework of healing and wellness. You will feel safe to share and honor the emotional and physical components that are uniquely you so that you can finally set yourself free from diet ideology and dogma. What do you want for the remaining 5 months of 2023? Let’s talk.
